Urban Design - Nasr road with Shaq Al-Thoban street redesign, Cairo, Egypt, 2009
Shaq Al-Thoban is the most important and biggest marble quarry in Cairo. However, it is one of the richest places in Cairo, it is a sample of the worst slums in the capital of Egypt. In 2009, this place belonged to the Helwan governorate which was a new one. The governor considered the main street in Shaq Al-Thoban to be redesigned and assigned Dr. Wael Aboneama for this task. Also, they were interested to select a part of the main street to construct a new administrative building for marble quarry in Cairo that includes an exhibition and hotel for foreigner investors. Unfortunately, Helwan governorate was eliminated and all its area belong now to Cairo governorate.
