Private House - Abha, Asir, Saudi Arabia - 2023
The home's exterior is a striking blend of contemporary and traditional Saudi Arabian architectural styles. The main facade features an elegant curved form clad in locally-sourced golden limestone, paying homage to the region's iconic mud-brick architecture. Large arched windows and doors are recessed to provide shade and visual depth. The home is centered around a spacious courtyard, a common feature in traditional Arabic homes that promotes natural ventilation and outdoor living. Ornate wooden mashrabiya screens line the courtyard walls, creating intricate patterns of light and shadow throughout the day.The open-plan living areas flow seamlessly into the courtyard through large glass sliders, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces. Cool gray tones and warm wood accents create a serene and sophisticated ambiance. Family living quarters are oriented towards privacy, with separate wings for male and female members. Bedrooms are generously sized with en-suite bathrooms clad in sleek stone and tiled surfaces.
