Interior Design - Miami Complex commercial mall - Alexandria, Egypt, 2015
The mall's interior has an airy, open concept design with soaring ceilings and an abundance of natural light. The floors are lined with large polished stone tiles or terrazzo in shades of gray and beige, creating an elegant yet durable surface for high foot traffic areas. Suspended from the ceiling are sweeping architecturally sculpted panels and contemporary light fixtures that resemble clusters of glowing orbs or metal ribbons. These lighting installations act as artistic focal points visible from all angles as you walk through the mall corridors. Storefronts integrate a mix of materials like glass, steel, stone, and wood with creative displays that blur the lines between interior and exterior spaces. Some have free-standing or double-height glazing that opens up fully to the mallway during operating hours. Throughout the mall are interspersed lounge areas with comfortable seating vignettes. These spaces may incorporate built-in banquette seating with tables, freestanding chairs, sofas, and couches in a variety of modern styles from mid-century to minimalist. Living green walls or planted topiaries bring nature inside. Escalators and elevators are enclosed in glass with sculpted metal detailing, almost like art pieces themselves. Centrally located are sculpted staircases acting as urban living rooms - wide steps with integrated seating and landscaped plants on railings or landings. Wayfinding is clear with illuminated directories, digital signage, and iconic architectural elements that serve as landmarks. Pops of color from mall kiosks and soft seating areas add vibrancy to the ambient neutral tones. The overall design aims to create a bright, open, and inviting environment that blends artistry with modern amenities to elevate the traditional shopping mall experience.
